Voters should always make an effort to vote in every election, because they are all significant, especially when we have an opportunity to stop our property from being taxed to the hilt. I am referring to the Shorewood- Troy Library Referendum Question on the ballot to more then triple our library tax rate so they can build a new $21 million library. We already have a brick & mortar library. In this digital age, we do not need this extra burden on our tax dollars. All the examples I have seen, the average priced house will see an increase of over $200.00 on their property tax bills if this passes. I see no other choice but to vote NO on the Referendum question April 9th.

The tax increase is exactlt 261%. My $207 library tax would go to $540. This is coming at a time when we ae all going digital and the foreclosures are mounting.

Hey Patch-why not break that library increase into some hard #s instead of tiny looking percentages? Like-say-how big of a $ jump on a $300k house? I know math is hard-that's why you're reporters.

hey Lynn DL-so i should vote for one set of thieving liars over another? THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE ANYMORE IN Repubs OR Dems. why do you think there is such apathy any more about the political process-people are disillusioned and angry about the 2 party system that brilliant men like Thomas Jefferson in his infinite wisdom warned us about. It's a false paradigm.

You know what really sucks? Is in order to vote no on the library I have no choice but to vote for some of these "officals" that are running unopposed.

Actually Steve, you don't have to vote in every race. The automated ballot will let you know you missed how many you skipped but you do not have to vote for every race. You don't even have to vote for all they allow you to in a given race. For example, The Joliet Township Trustee says to vote for 4, if you choose to vote in this race, you could vote for only one... same for any race that has this option,.
