Raynor Avenue Ambulance Crash Sends 7 to Hospital

Ambulance sent into oncoming traffic near the intersection of Raynor and Western.

A driver ran a red light and crashed into an ambulance transporting a patient to Provena St. Joseph Medical Center Tuesday.

Seven were taken to St. Joseph hospital following the 3:45 p.m. crash at the intersection of Raynor and Western avenues.

Police said the seven suffered minor injuries.

The Joliet Fire Department ambulance was heading west on Western and had the green light, police said. A northbound vehicle struck the ambulance near its back tires, spinning it around and sending it into the oncoming traffic.

The ambulance then careened into a vehicle stopped for the red light, nearly tipping the car over.

The driver of the first car took a ticket for failing to top for a red light. The cited driver's identity was not available Tuesday evening.

Raynor is a race track and needs some attention from the traffic division. We still have a traffic division don't we?

A lot of people just slow down for red lights and stop signs and some don't even do that. I live on Black Rd and we have a lot of Ambulance traffic and it amazes me how many people either can't hear the Ambulance or just don't care. I am suprised we don't have more accidents involving emergency vehicles.

There are now only 3 people in the Joliet PD traffic division. Joliet PD hasn't hired in a long time but recently posted opennings.
