Carlton Fisk Pleads Guilty to DUI Charge

The former White Sox pitcher and Baseball Hall of Famer was arrested in October after being found asleep in his vehicle that was driven into a New Lenox field.

Carlton Fisk, the one-time White Sox great who was found passed out behind the wheel in a New Lenox field three months ago, pleaded guilty Thursday to driving under the influence.

Fisk has agreed to pay $1,250 in court costs and was sentenced to one year's court supervision under the plea deal approved by Will County Judge Bennett Braun, a story published by the Chicago Tribune said.

He must also undergo an alcohol abuse evaluation and meet with a panel of people who have had family and friends killed by drunken drivers, the story said.

Fisk, 64 and a part-time New Lenox resident, was arrested Oct. 22 after police found him passed out inside his pickup truck, which he drove into a field near Gougar and Spencer roads. A bottle of vodka was found in the truck, New Lenox police said.

He was charged with driving under the influence, transportation of alcohol and improper lane usage, the latter two of which were dropped in exchange for his guilty plea to the misdemeanor DUI count.

Fisk's defense attorney Stephen White said his client did not realize the effect that mixing alcohol and prescription drugs would have on his ability to drive, according to the Tribune story.

Yeah, it's nice to see him finally man up and take responsibility for his actions. Too bad all he got was a slap on the wrist.

Dear Editor,
Where's the editor? Carlton Fisk is a Hall of Fame catcher not a pitcher.

How many people have taken Tylenol and drove?..on the bottle it says may cause drowsiness...that's just as dangerous...how many of you have taken mini thins to stay awake and drove? What are you doing driving if you need something to keep you awake?..is that not just as dangerous...shouldn't be so judgmental without looking at your own actions...taking anything because you do not feel good or to stay awake is just as dangerous as DUI or walking across the street...all have killed many..

I liked the line how they slipped it in about prescription drugs. I didn't hear anything about that on the first place.

I forgive you, Carlton. It's not like you're the first person who ever made a mistake.
