Fatal Accident on Interstate 80 Closes Eastbound Lanes
An out-of-state semi truck driver died in the crash.
Two semi trucks and a passenger car collided Thursday afternoon, leaving the driver of one of the semis dead and two additional drivers injured, Illinois State Police reported.
The two semis are a 2009 Red Freightliner box truck and 2012 Blue Freightliner Box Truck. The car was a 2011 Kia Soul.
Norman Hargus, 41, of Lenoir, North Carolina, driver of the 2009 Red Freightliner, was pronounced deceased on the scene. Drivers of the remaining vehicles were both taken to area hospitals with non life-threatening injuries, Illinois State Police reported.
The crash happened just past 2 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80, just east of the Route 47 interchange.
Preliminary ISP reports show the 2009 Freightliner struck the rear of the KIA causing the semi to jackknife blocking all lanes of traffic striking the rear of the 2012 Blue Freightliner. The investigation continues.
Minooka Fire Protection District assisted on the scene.
