The hometown favorites in a new wood bat collegiate league are kicking off the season with a former Cub who is now working in the North Siders' broadcast booth.
Keith Moreland will serve as the keynote speaker at the Will County CrackerJacks’ Leadoff Luncheon.
The event is scheduled for noon on Tuesday, May 31. Conrad’s Harley Davidson in Shorewood is hosting the luncheon.
Conrad's Harley Davidson is at 19356 N.E. Frontage Road.
“We are thrilled to host the Will County CrackerJacks’ Leadoff Luncheon and excited to have Cubs broadcaster Keith Moreland as the keynote speaker for this event,” said Darren Conrad, owner of Conrad’s Harley Davidson.
Moreland played six of his 12 Major League seasons for the Cubs. He batted .279 for his career and slugged 121 home runs.
“Keith was a very colorful player and a welcome addition to the Cubs’ broadcasting family this season and we look forward to having him serve as the keynote speaker for the CrackerJacks’ Leadoff Luncheon,” said CrackerJacks’ President and General Manager — and Shorewood resident — Jamie Toole.
The CrackerJacks are members of the Midwest Collegiate League, a summer collegiate wood bat league based in the Chicago area. The CrackerJacks begin their innaugural season on June 3 when they travel to play the Elgin-based Chicago Zephyrs.
The CrackerJacks home schedule begins with a June 11 double header at Wayne King Jr. Field on the campus of Joliet Junior College.
