Get Out: Support Children and Make Cupcakes

Local events include opportunities to support local programs.

 

 

1. Support Opportunities for Special-Needs children

When: 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday
Where: Elk’s Lodge, 250 SE Frontage Rd. in Joliet
Why:
Sunrise Center provides horseback riding to special-needs children and has seen the experience change the children. This is one of its fundraisers to provide additional services to its clientele.
Cost:
Tickets purchased in advance are $25 and can be purchased by calling Kris at 815-467-9332. Tickets purchased at the door will be $30. 

2. Learn About Firefighters and Local History

When: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday
Where: Joliet Area Historical Museum
Why:
  The museum is teaming up with the Joliet Police and Joliet Fire Departments for a block party. Police and Fire equipment, the K9 unit and activities and games will be offered. And, admission to the museum is free.
Cost: Free to attend

3. Jump Around

When: 3 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Saturday
Where: The Jump Up
Why: On Autism Awareness Day, take your kids to The Jump Up and have fun while supporting a great cause.
Cost: $10 per child, $5 per adult without a paying child.

4. B.I.N.G.O. for Kids

When: 11 a.m. to noon, Saturday
Where: Three Rivers Public Library, Minooka Branch
Why:
The library has customized boards for 1st to 4th graders, while non-readers (3-6 years old with a grown up) can try their hand at picture bingo. There will also be prizes. 5. Let Them Eat (Cup) Cakes

When: 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday
Where: Shorewood-Troy Library
Why:
Tom Degutis, former professional pastry chef, will teach attendees how to create two types of Easter cupcakes based on designs in "Hello, Cupcake!" and "What's New Cupcake?" by Karen Tack.  Advanced registration is required as space will be limited. Call Leslie Lovato at 815-725-1715
