Gluten-Free Sandwiches and Ice Cream Cones
Paradise Cove, in Morris, will make you a sandwich on gluten-free bread or an ice cream on a gluten-free cone.
For those who have a gluten sensitivity, allergy or Celiac disease, Paradise Cove, in Morris, is a local culinary paradise. The beach-themed sandwich shop offers sandwiches on gluten-free bread and ice cream cones that are gluten-free. As many GF people will tell you, actually getting to eat the bread or cone is a luxury that is a seldom occurrence.
And as wonderful as the option is, it would not be worth anything if the food were not any good. But, the good news is, the food is great. And, the staff is knowledgeable. I first ordered the California Club. But when I said on gluten-free bread, the lady behind the counter shook her head. Seems the sandwich, which was packed with two or three meats and condiments and avocado was too much for the alternative bread to handle. So, I ended up with a turkey sandwich with lettuce, tomato and mayo and slices of avocado. Yum. Sandwiches come with chips, macaroni salad or pasta salad, so GF diners will opt for the chips. Mine were flavored and were very good.
I ordered the daily flavored iced tea to go with my sandwich and I wish they came in larger cup sizes. I had a large, but next time would probably actually order two. First, it was really good - the flavor that day was mango. And second, as those who have eaten GF bread know, even the best loaf is drier than mainstream bread. You need more to drink. The bread the shop was using the day I visited had flaxseed in it. That's like a health-bonus.
In addition to teas and sodas, Paradise Cove has a variety of Smoothie flavors, with unusual offerings such as Forbidden Fruit and Acai berry. I have had mango before and it was very good.
And, finally, if you are looking for dessert to go, get that ice cream cone. You can eat the whole thing.
