Heat Rash: Woman Arrested for Leaving Pooch In Hot Car
Joliet police were called by employees at Macy's who were concerned about a dog left in a sweltering car while its owner shopped.
This summer's rash of animals and children left to bake in buttoned-up automobiles all over Joliet continued Saturday with dog found in a locked car parked outside the Macy's in the Louis Joliet Mall.
Macy's employees called the law about the pooch trapped in the sweat box of a car about noon Friday, police said.
Officers arrived and reportedly did indeed find a dog in a car with its windows rolled up. The temperature was in excess of 90 degress at the time, police said.
An officer ran the car's license plate and identified the vehicle's owner, then was able to obtain a phone number for her so he could place a call.
The woman, Joyce Craig, 50, of 1315 Rowell Ave., happened to be shopping in the Macy's, police said. After she came outside to her car, she was charged with cruelty to an animal.
