Joliet Man Killed in Head-on Crash

A Joliet man was killed in a head-on collision near Manhattan.

A Joliet man was killed Sunday night when he ran his pickup truck head on into another pickup on Route 52 near Manhattan, police said.

The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene of the 10:40 p.m. crash on Route 52 south of Delaney Road, according to a statement released by the Will County Coroner's Office.

Officials were withholding the man's name until he could be identified at the Will County morgue by relatives. His wife reportedly was en route Monday from Mexico to Joliet to make the identification.

The statement released by Will County Coroner Patrick O'Neil's office said the man's identity would be ascertained through fingerprint comparison.

The driver of the other pickup truck was injured in the crash, police said. He was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.

The state police were unable to provide the injured man's identity.

No criminal charges had been filed in connection with the crash as of Monday night, police said.

NO! I am entitled to post any comment I feel as long as I don't violate Patch's terms and conditions. You all will come to hate me sometime soon. Already well hated on the Shorewood patch. I've even had a few stories wrote about me.....one from the Troy fire chief as a backlash to one of my comments.

The government is not in the business of providing free air fare but you lack the intelligence to realize that. A life tragically lost is not the time for your ignorant comments. Your post does indeed violate the terms of use: "is threatening, harassing or that promotes racism, bigotry, hatred or physical harm of any kind against any group or individual." I suggest you go crawl back under your rock.

His post is asking a question...making a statement..he says nothing about a group..he is curious and seems no one has an answer...telling someone to crawl back under their rock is more insulting...if we violate people for this the long term effect is that we lose our right to speak our minds...

I was there the night of the accident and witness to many men and women who rescued the person that is hospitalized and recovered the person who died. The Manhattan police, Fire Departments from Manhattan and New Lenox, Will County Sheriff Department, Coroner, and Rescue Air Crew treated both victims with respect for their lives and displayed emergent and excellent care. As a professional registered nurse the care given by all the above was tremendous with so much respect for human life and after death. To both families I express sorrow for your loss-your husband, son, father, brother, and friend; and to the person who was airlifted to the hospital I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
That night all the neighbors, my husband and myself were out watching the horrific scene and realized how fast life does pass. It has opened our eyes to appreciate our love ones and to tell them so when we part because it could be the last time.
To both families I prayed for your loved ones that night and will remember it the rest of my life.
To the Patch editor I have been looking since the accident to see this story and you have been the only source that had information. Keep up the good job.
Once again my sincere sorrow for your loss to the family of the Joliet man and the person in the hospital my prayers are with you for a quick recovery.
Sincerely
Pat
