Joliet Woman Steals Keys Off Counter, Takes Car For Spin, Says Cops
A local woman explained to the cops that she really just found the keys to the car she was driving on the ground in a parking lot, police said.
A Joliet woman charged with stealing a car tried to tell the cops she really just found some keys and decided to take a ride, police said.
The police still took 20-year-old Andrea Turner into custody and booked her into the county jail on charges of burglary and criminal trespass to a vehicle.
Turner, who told the police she lives in East Chicago, Ind., but according to sheriff's department records resides at 416 S. Joliet St., reportedly explained to the cops she found a set of keys on the ground of a parking lot in the 1000 block of West Jefferson Street.
Turner hit the locator button on the car key to find which vehicle it belonged to, then got in and drove away, the police said she told them.
But a woman working at a real estate office had already called the cops and told them someone stole her car keys off her desk. Officers were provided with a description of the car and found Turner driving it on South Joliet Street, police said.
