5 reasons to vote NO on this Referendum: #1. This will more then triple what you pay now on the library tax. Example; If your house is worth $ 175,000 you now pay$83.00 per year. If this passes you will now pay $295.00 per year. #2 Our paychecks just got 2% smaller as the SS tax rate went up from 4.2 to 6.2. And if that isn't enough does anyone think once they do something about pension reform in Illinois our taxes won't go up? #3. Seniors and other people on fixed incomes may not be able to afford to pay an extra $200.00 per year for a new library. #4 With the digital age here and everything at our finger tips, there is NO need for a larger library. #5. The library we have now is in good shape, and more then adequate. This referendum is not in the best interest of how to spend the taxpayers money. I will vote NO.

I've lived in the Walnut Trails townhomes for 7 yrs. I like my townhome and was happy that my mortgage went down this yr from $994 to $978. I CANNOT afford to have it go back up to over $1000 a month. Let me remind you I am a SENIOR CITIZEN. Where am I to go without giving my townhome away with the prices now a days. Shame on the Village of Shorewood. I suddenly don't like living here very much anymore. Think of your people not BOOKS.

Well said you two. Nobody can really afford anything to go up, let alone more taxes. All this will end up being is a $21 million babysitter for all these lazy people that just had to have more kids then they can occupy. Shorewood needs to realize people can't continue to pay for their "vision" that will never happen. I think it is time Chapman and most of the village board to be voted out. None of them have the residents in mind when they do these things. They need to find another way to pay for this babysitter. I'll be voting no...just not sure about the Saturday meetings. I don't want to go up there and end up tearing someone a new asshole. Because we all know it will only be a matter of minutes before S.P.D. shows up. Then I know where I would be going......to the bank to bond out.

Infamous, that will do no good. The best thing you and everyone else can do to stop this, is to let people know what this will cost them, and ask them to show up and vote NO on April 9. There is no doubt in my mind that the majority of the people do not want this tax increase, but we all must show up April 9 and let it be known by voting NO.

Who needs a big fancy library in this day and age of the internets? These massive libraries are simply shrines to our egotistical politicians that are forever seeking private employee tax dollars to feed the growing govt beast. There will probably be only one book in it anyway-Chapman's loony book on a Muslim takeover of the USA-WTF??? TELL EVERYONE ABOUT THE BIG TAX HIT WE WILL ALL TAKE.

anonymous, your last sentence hit it on the head. That is the only way to stop this waste of our tax dollars, going to the polls and vote NO.

Dear Anonymous
Your ego is only exceeded by your lack of knowledge about local government. The Shorewood Village Board has nothing to do with the Troy/Shorewood Library. It, by the way is a totally separate taxing body. It is also obvious that you didn't read my book because you would realize that it is "fiction", similar to most of your comments.

The 361% tax hike does NOT include the extra staff that they said they will need. The baby sitting service they call a library is noisy and underutilized as a library. The COMMUNITY MEETING ROOM should be used for LIBRARY purposes and meetings in the Village Hall rooms. VOTE NO people or more of us may be moving or losing their homes.

Or they could finance it by turning off the lights in the Taj at night. Talk about a waste of money!

One shouldnt forget the dramatic rise in the utility bils given the size of this albatross upon the taxpayers back. Then, just when you thought they were done sticking it in your ass, there will be a sudden realization, "Gee, with this big new building we are understaffed", so the payroll will increase to hire additional employee's. Then, the administrative staff will cry foul about all their additional responsibility's, and will gladly be given a generous salary raise by the library board, who care more about projecting an image than listening to the taxpayer's.
To the library board; For christsake, we live in a town of 19k, right next to the shithole that is Joliet. We will never attain status of any sort, no matter how much of my money you piss away, because of the simple fact,..we are right next to Joliet. The only thing that makes a Shorewood resident better than a Joliet resident, is that they think they are, that is all.
The library board needs to get their head out of their collective ass, and listen to what people are saying here. Now that the true cost's are coming into the light, you dont see any liberal welfare queens talking about the library's benefit to them, considering that they are "low income". like was raised the last round here, where my post's got deleted for being personal attacks and vulgar.towards some idiot.
