Perhaps The Patch can gather the statistics on how many of these requests have landed on the the desk of the "powers that be" and how many were denied and what criteria is used to approve these requests. Former Gov. Ryan's was not released to attend his wife's funeral. And to think he was not charged with murder.

Why are they letting a convicted murdered out to go to his mothers funeral but Govenor Ryan, who didn't kill anyone, couldn't go to his wife's funeral? Something isn't right with this system.

Leave his butt in jail where it belongs!, We ( the taxpayers ) have to feed this looser 3 hots a day, and now we pay for his gas to go out and get driven around too!!.. No one else gets this privelage, he should be treated like the dirt bag that he is.

When you are incarcerated there are no leaves for good behavior, passing of family members, etc; Too bad his children didn't get to say a proper good-bye to Stacy their mother!

I sit here in SHOCK, I was told this would happen but I said NO, they would not give him PROFESSIONAL COURTESY because I believed in the system and the fact that our county jail is FILLED with people that are not found guilty of charges such as writing a bad check or a simple batttery charge, NOT EVEN FOUND GUILY, and I KNOW without a DOUBT that they would not be allow out to attend a funeral or anything.,

YET we have one of Bolingbrook’s FINEST, that was FOUND GUILTY,
G U I L T Y of a BRUTAL murder of his THIRD WIFE, Mother of 2 of his children, AND KILLED HER AND MADE IT LOOK LIKE AN ACCIDENT. Yes, my friends, he ALMOST GOT AWAY with it, THE PERFECT CRIME he said... Yet, Governor George Ryan that was found guilty of a "White Color" Crime and he is NOT allowed to go to her funeral,. There are tragic things that happen to everyday people that are in jail, kids that get shot and killed for being in the wrong place at the wrong time and their MOM or DAD maybe doing time for something, DO THEY GET OUT to attend the FURERAL?? Ok, so this is DREW PETERSON and I am sorry that the children lost their grandmother (to natural causes) and others that were affected by her death and it is sad BUT DREW KILLED... KILLED... KATHLEEN SAVIO so what gives him the right to get out to go see his mother, he has not seen her the entire time he has been in jail so we are talking about almost 4 years now..

Relax people it's not the first time someone in prison for murder got to go to a wake! It happened in a eastern suburb years ago when a gang banger in prison for murder was taken in shackles to his mothers wake. It happens more than you know about!

Why do they allow Conjugal visits in prison , along with weight lifting, color television and tattoos! That all should be stopped then!

Kelly is technically right and does not deserve the name calling. Until someone is formally sentenced (different than a conviction) and begins serving their time, they are sometimes allowed the freedom to go home and get their affairs in order. Blago had several months to live at home AFTER sentencing before being required to report to Prison to begin serving time. If a person is not determined to be a flight risk or a danger to society, or at risk of being murdered themselves if they are allowed freedom, they are allowed to be out of jail even after being convicted of a crime. Drew might be a flight risk, but I suspect the bigger concern is some nut case executing him. However; since he was not formally serving a sentence, he is allowed more freedom (if you can call being shackled at a funeral home that) then if the clock had started on his punishment. Ryan, on the other hand, was in the process of serving his time, and therefore was under a different standard in regards to what he was allowed – he was under the jurisdiction of the federal penal system. Until Peterson is formally sentenced and begins serving time, he isn’t.

Not that I think Drew deserves anything, but an inmate can be taken to an imidiate family members wake, begote the piblic viewing & with no one else there except the CO's that bring him/her there, for a price. Usually in the thousand dollar range.

why does anyone really care if he went to a private viewing of his late mother? You all act like they let him borrow a car and leave for the day. He still had to stand there ashamed in shackles. I dont care if a prisoner is being held for any charge, they should be allowed in circumstances like a death to be allowed to attend. The state wastes all kinds of money on pork projects, etc. that they never tell the public about. Any person can be incarcerated for any charge and be denied access to funerals and this is inhumane.

i am involved in a prison Ministry and i do see inmates get to go to view a parents body or to the funeral.

But the inmates family or someone has to pay$$$ for the transportation and the officers which could amount to thousands of dollars and most cannot afford this.

But i believe this is standard for most prisons with all things considred of the inmate.
