President Obama has been as successful as he could be. The entire housing industry was nearly destroyed by greed and stupid moves from both sides of Congress. All industries connected to home building and sales was decimated by the banking crisis. This was not Obama's doing. His efforts actually buffered the worst of the situation, yet the Republicans in their desire to weaken the President have striven to stifle any move he's made. The bulk of the damage happened under Bush (a fact that angers the right to a point of mocking any who mention it!) , yet it was the financial mismanagement of two wars that left us unable to deal effectively with the impending recession. The Republican party's Orwellian desire to rewrite history seems to be working with the those who's intellectual curiosity is underdeveloped, yet the facts remain.

This will affect the direction for of the US for decades, much as the conservative leaning court is now doing. Under the Cheney/Bush administration, jobs were disappearing at a rate of 500,000 a month toward the end of his reign. Lost jobs means no money in which to stimulate the economy which lead to even more job losses. This in turn has affected nearly every segment of our economy. Many of these lost jobs will never return and the over 50 boomers have been particularly hard hit. Recently congressional hearings and testimony told the story of the formerly employed over 50 unable to find work and the rampant age discrimination occuring. Ask any out of work boomer how many resumes they fire off and how many calls for interviews are received from employers:

The over 50 unemployed have lost their homes, medical insurance, savings and in many cases, their hope. Many rely on food stamps just to survive while they continue on their odyssey of trying to find gainful employment in an economy which doesn't seem to want older workers.
The republicon view of society is that of a perpetual struggle which they believe exists in nature in which the old and weak are cast aside in favor of the young and strong and if you cannot make it on your own resources or wits, too bad. Except if you are wealthy and powerful. Then you are given corporate welfare.

Many times now and in the past I have been attacked, many of the attacks resort to worse than condescending. It happens on both sides and I think we know who some of the worst offenders are and who usually throws the first grenade. You keep it civil and so will I. You want to use unsavory rhetoric, terms like cons, etc., then that person deserves the same. Some people will stoop to the others level and I usually find certain people fun to agitate after they get it going. Can't always help with certain people. Some of the sites quoted are also hateful and I don't place much confidence in some websites that are determined to destroy the other side at any cost. They spew vitriol, they bend things out of context, and would like to make one small person or one small group representative of the whole (other) side. Some people also hold double standards.
