Valentine's Day is a tough holiday.
Every year guys need to come up with something fabulous, and women need to know we're special
Although the old standbys, roses and chocolates, still work, here are some local ways to celebrate a memorable meal.
If you are looking for a candlelit dinner with table cloths and a fine wine that compliments the meal, here are two great restaurants. In Shorewood, Louie's Chophouse, 700 W. Jefferson St. always delivers a quality experience. In Minooka, only one place comes to mind: Cookie's Restaurant, 103 Mondamin St. Both are long on ambiance, great food and stellar service. Beware, they are priced for what they deliver.
For those needing to save a buck but still wanting a charming place to stare into your sweetheart's eyes, Grill Marx, 1150 Jefferson St. in Shorewood, can't be beat. They offer a wide menu from filet mignon to baked mac & cheese, with prices to match. They still have a full bar, a nice wine list and a more casual ambiance.
Good ol' local color can be found at the Lone Star Restaurant & Lounge, 25208 W. Eames St. in Channahon off Route 6. No need to dress up for this place. Customers report great food visit after visit. It is considered a local favorite for breakfast as well. If you need to bring the kids, this is definitely the down home choice. Dirty boots are welcome.
Lastly, for folks who just can't make it out for dinner, do not fret. Enjoi Bakeshop & Cafe is a great place to pick up fresh-baked, yummy breakfast treats. With the nice cafe tables inside, you can take your sweetie to lunch. Located at 24735 W. Eames St. in Channahon, it is a quick alternative if you want something different.
