Tiffany Unland Faces Two Counts of Aggravated DUI

Will County State's Attorney filed charges on Tuesday.

Tiffany Unland, 30, of Coal City, was charged with two counts of aggravated driving while under the influence of alcohol, Charles Pelkie, Will County State's Attorney Spokesperson said.

"The charge used to be called reckless homicicde or they used to call it vehicular homicide," Pelkie said.

But, now the charge is aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol. It is a class 2 felony charge, the same as reckless homicide and carries a penalty of 3 to 7 years in prison

“It is the equivelant of a reckless homicide charge," Pelkie said.

Unland was arrested following a fatal car crash on August 31 in Channahon that killed 46-year-old Anthony B. Calhoun, whose last know address was in Palatine.

Umm I'm sorry, but you get behind the wheel of a car/truck in the middle of the day drunk and kill an innocent person and you get 6 to 7 years? Are you kidding me? That is absolutly terrible. If you are careless enough to go out and get wasted during the middle of the day and get behind the wheel of a car when there are plenty of people awake you can call for a ride and the kill someone in the process, you deserve to rot in a jail cell for much longer than that. The system yet again fails us.

Do you two above posters know the laws? WHy do people always act so shocked when they hear the potential sentences?

This is why it is important to vote for lawmakers you believe can make a difference and it is also important to constantly remind those lawmakers what you want.

Don't just read an article online and then grunt and get all crazy like it is an outrage.

And the poor man has a son that is three. He'll be without his father for the rest of his life.

Just pathetic.

I never knew the sentence for this. Not something I had ever thought about looking up. Do you know the sentences for all crimes?

I thought that in Illinois the charge of aggravated DUI when the there was a fatality carried a sentence of 1-12 years. Either way, it still seems like a short sentence for someone that despite the consequences choose to drive under the influence and took away a man's life. I'm not a lawyer but it would of been nice if she would of been charged with manslaughter in the second degree. Although, it would of been great if this whole incident wouldn't of happened in the first place.
