Seniors have been congregating at the Troy Township Senior Center since 1986, enjoying food, fun and friendship on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Various activities include card games, bingo, monthly birthday celebrations, Wii bowling, computer classes, entertainment and a special Christmas luncheon.
In 2006 the seniors moved from the Troy Township Office building into a new Troy Township Community Center building addition. The community room has plenty of space for seniors to enjoy their activities in comfort.
The center's architecture includes large glass windows that allow natural sunlight to filter into the community room and a large patio to the east includes outdoor tables and benches for seniors to enjoy any time the Illinois weather allows.
The Troy Township Senior Center is a congregate meal nutrition site for the Senior Services Center of Will County. The Senior Services Center of Will County provides a fresh food meal served to any senior attending Troy Township Seniors’ activities, and the cost of the meal is on a donation basis.
The Senior Services Center of Will County also provides many programs for seniors including health screenings that include blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol and spinal checks.
The center also provides information on legal assistance, income tax assistance, information concerning Medicare and healthy nutrition, and Tai Chi classes.
If any resident 60 years and older would like to enjoy the benefits of this senior group and make a reservation for a lunch, please call the Troy Township Office at 815-744-1968. Lunch reservations have to be made one week in advance so plan accordingly.
