Walsh Son Elected New Regional Supt.

Only one Will County Board member voted against Shawn Walsh, who had been nominated by his father, Will County Executive Larry Walsh.

With only one dissenting vote, Shawn Walsh was selected to be Will County's new regional superintendent of schools.

Walsh, who had been the assistant regional superintendent, was the only applicant for the job. He was nominated by his father, Will County Executive Larry Walsh, to succeed Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant, who was elected a state senator in November.

The Will County Board concurred with Walsh's recommendation, with only board member Margo McDermed (R-Mokena) voting in opposition, according to a story in the Joliet Herald News. (Naperville board member Chuck Maher passed on voting.)

“Just because you can do something, doesn’t mean you should do something,” McDermed told the newspaper.

Shawn Walsh, of Elwood, said he will complete Bertino-Tarrant's term and seek election to a full term in 2014.

I hope the Walsh's end up like the Todd Stroger family and the Jesse Jackson family. Greed got them into nothing but trouble. I am very sick of the Walsh's. I guess I am missing something. Balderman is another one I am sick of.

First and foremost, Shawn Walsh is qualified for the position. He has been a teacher and administrator in County schools. He has worked in the office. He interviewed and was recommended by the screening panel that included leaders in education from across the County. Larry Walsh followed the rec of this panel and nominated their selection. I don't care for the Good Old Boy mentality, but in this case, I believe it is misplaced.

At first I was skeptical of the appointment and then I met Shawn Walsh. He has excellent qualifications. People cannot choose their parents and because a parent is involved in politics, it should not mean that an adult child cannot succeed in their chosen profession. Maybe no one else applied for the job because it means laying your entire life out in public; having people who do not even know you but dislike your parent, lash out at you. Too many people assume that an elected official's wife and children should also have the public comment on whatever they choose to do. Let Shawn Walsh have the chance to prove he can do the job and then if you still think you can do better or know someone who can do better, have them run for the position in 2014.

The government employees around here are more inbred than Kentucky hillbillies-but they know the only good paying jobs any more are govt jobs paid for by us sucker taxpayers-you don't think they'll let these cushy jobs go to anyone but family do you. But their union buddies get out the vote so the sh!t will continue until the $ runs out.

Couldn't Larry Walsh get sonny-boy an awesome job at one of those lovely warehouses he lured to Will County with the big tax breaks that homeowners have to pick up the slack for? May they all rot in he!!.

Kudos eric. What town was it-just the first 3 letters would be good or just "sounds like" or "rhymes with" would suffice.

Anonymous, I agree with you that the politicians kids should work in the warehouses. If those jobs are so good and high paying those on the Joliet city council and those who work for the City should encourage their family members to apply for them. Those jobs are only good for everyone else.
