Want to Learn How to Use Patch?
Local Editor Dawn Aulet will be teaching a free class at Joliet Junior College.
Photos
Patch offers its users the ability to read news, interact with their neighbors and comment on stories. But that is just the tip of the iceburg. You can post your events, like your garage sales on the site. You can post announcements or share photos on the site for your neighbors to see. And, lastly, you can blog on the site and we would love it if you did.
But we know that the thought of any of these things can be intimidating. So we have a way for your to learn how to use Patch to your advantage. From 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Feb. 28, Local Editor Dawn Aulet will teach community members and business owners how to do all of these things and more. The class is free, but you do need to register.

Can I be your proof reader? In the second paragraph though should thought and your should be you.

Oooooops, Amanda! You left a word out, too! Your sentence says:.......though should thought. You omitted the word "be". It should read, "though should be thought". I guess we all make mistakes sometimes!

Proofreading is a lost art. Newspapers, online or printed, are filled with errors everyday. Because nobody in newspaper management cares. All of us who did care are out of the business, some by choice, others by layoffs. Putting out a top product just doesn't matter anymore.

Sad to say, there are far too few people who care about putting out a good product or good service in many occupations of life. I am getting too old to argue with these young whippersnappers, but I am glad that I can handle life not totally hooked to technology! Good ole reading, writing, and arithmetic! Bring back more nuns!

I tend to proof read but not comment when I find something for fear of being called the, this, that, or the other grammar police. Or god fiorbid have someone find a mistake in my comment pointing out a mistake and sarcasticly call me out on it using a bunch of exclamation points that people constantly misuse.

I dared to comment on article cohesion and grammar once and got a snippy retort from the "reporter". Needless to say, I will not make the mistake of thinking someone reporting news should know how to write properly.

Thanks for pointing out my typo. It has been corrected. As has already been mentioned, we all make mistakes.
I agree that proofreading is a lost art. But I don't agree that it is for lack of caring. We all do the best we can and we all make mistakes, that we, hopefully, make an effort to fix when we realize them.
