Yeezy Yikes! Nike Nuts Robbed
Seven young men waiting outside the closed Louis Joliet mall to buy the new Air Yeezy 2 were robbed Saturday morning.
The newest Nike basketball shoe everybody's got to have ended up costing seven young men their cash, wallets and cell phones.
The young men—a 20-year-old and some 16 and 17-year-olds—formed up outside the closed Westfield Louis Joliet Mall near the entrance to T.G.I. Friday's about 1 a.m., police said.
The group passed the time together, sitting in lawn chairs and waiting for the mall to open so they could be the brand new Air Yeezy 2, the latest Nike gotta-have. The shoe was just released Saturday morning at a retail price of $245.
Another group of three men arrived about 2 a.m. and stayed apart from the first group. After about an hour, the three outsiders pulled the hoods of their sweat shirts over their heads and yanked the draw strings tight, leaving only their eyes visible beneath the brims of their baseball caps, police said.
The three men then produced what the victims said appeared to be handguns.
The original seven men thought they were being put on and that the whole thing was a joke. But they were wrong.
As if they weren't going to be ripped off badly enough by buying $245 sneakers, the men ended up losing their cash, wallets and cell phones to the apparent gunmen and were left with no new shoes at all.
The bandits then ran north through a parking lot, police said, most likely to a waiting getaway car.
The Air Yeezy 2, which was reportedly designed by Kanye West, "attracted long lines and frenzied online bidding in the thousands of dollars" on Saturday, according to the Los Angeles Times.

What idiots would line up at 1 am to buy $245 shoes!? Obviously it's a select group, since there were only 7 waiting lol. That's what you get, suckers!

Just goes to show the stupidity that people have now. They deseved what that ended up getting. Another thing, why would police let them line up at the mall at 1 A.M.? Nothing good comes of people out at that time...and this is proof.

You kids are losers for even caring about a pair of shoes that much to camp out. To even spend that kind of money on some shoes is moronic at best. This entire younger gerneration you see out there these days is a joke. I can see about wanting to look stylish but to this extreme it stupid! But hey atleast you got your pair....now how you gonna pay rent fool?

ICAMPEDOUTANDGOTMYPAIR, after reading your post it pains me to see that although you had the foresight to camp out to get your pair of shoes you don't have the foresight to put any time or effort into a decent education. And in the end what will you have? An overpriced pair of sneakers and a minimum wage dead-end job.

No one "deserves" to be robbed - no matter how stupid or moronic they happen to be. I wouldn't camp out allnight for shoes or a video game. Although, robbery is a serious crime to wish on anyone.

Those kids were stupid to have their wallets on them in the middle of the night. Next time have your parents or whoever drop off your money on the morning of the release!

Never underestimate the stupidity of people in a crowd -- especially if they are willing to part with $245 to buy a pair of shoes designed by some jerk who is enjoying his 15 minutes of fame. I hope these thugs are caught and spend some serious time in jail for their crime. Didn't their mothers teach them what I taught my children: "If it's not yours, keep your hands off"! While I would never advocate spending that kind of money on a pair of shoes, these young men didn't deserve to have their money & belongings stolen. The best lessons learned are the ones that hurt the most.
