Joliet Central and West Chess Teams Qualify for State Championship

 

The Joliet Central and West Chess Teams will compete in the IHSA State Chess Championship on Feb. 7 and 8 in Peoria, IL.

The teams earned eligibility after competing in a qualifying tournament.

Joliet Central High School students qualifying for State Competition are: Uriel Barron-Flores, Nigel Bennett, Angel Campos, Aaron  Davila, Nathan Ellison, James Wesley, Tyler McDonald, Veronica Perez-Cervantes, Mariano Velasco, Bryan Galvan and Tristen Isom.

The JCHS Chess Coaches are Luis Medina and Rod Coatney.

Joliet West High School students qualifying for State Competition are: Lonnell Westbrooks, Eric Miller-Hatten, Uriel Castro, Diego Zurita, Dylan Eigenheer, Matt Ryan, Jorge Guzman and Jose Ramos.  The team’s alternates are Kati Turk and Ashley Delay.

The JWHS Chess Coaches are Roger Plechaty and Lauren Von Holst
