Edward Foundation Charity Golf Tournament raises record $301,000
The Edward Foundation raised a record $301,000 at its 20th Annual Charity Golf Tournament, a 29 percent increase over last year. The Tournament was held July 15 at Cog Hill Golf Club in Lemont. The Foundation is the charitable fundraising organization of Edward Hospital & Health Services.
Tom Thayer, former Chicago Bears offensive lineman and play-by-play analyst for the Bears radio network, was the celebrity guest.
A record 225 golfers took part in the event and contributed funds through sponsorships, donations, a raffle, games and the purchase of mulligans.

The winning team on Cog Hill’s Dubsdread course included Tom Bollinger, Tom Giroux, Scot MacDonell and Marty O’Malley of St. Jude Medical. The winning team on Cog Hill’s Course #1 included Bill Hallberg, Tom Reif, Robert Rozner and Ed Vaughn of Hallberg Commercial.
This year’s event featured a Helicopter Ball Drop in which entrants paid for a chance to have a numbered golf ball dropped from a helicopter and land closest to Course #1’s 18th hole. The winner and Foundation split the Ball Drop proceeds of $5,475.

The Foundation’s next major event and fundraiser, the 23rd annual gala, The Big Gig: Reign, will be held on Saturday, October 19 at the Westin Lombard Yorktown Center. For more information and to register, visit www.edward.org/biggig.
Over the last two years, the Foundation has donated $3.2 million to Edward programs and services, including $500,000 to fund access to care for the uninsured and working poor, $1 million to upgrade a Cardiovascular Operating Room to a Hybrid Operating Room, $1 million to help pay for the construction of three one-story additions to Linden Oaks at Edward, $600,000 to fund the acquisition of the latest diagnostic technology for Edward’s endoscopy lab and $100,000 for Edward’s screening, wellness and prevention programs.
The Foundation has raised more than $29 million since 1990 in its mission to support Edward’s community healthcare initiatives, centers of excellence like Edward Heart Hospital and Edward Cancer Center, and programs that make Edward unique, like the Ronald McDonald Family Room.
