Federal Relief Available to Shorewood Residents Impacted by April Flooding

Aaron Klima, chief of police and director of the Village's emergency management program, is working to help local flood victims apply for federal aid.

In an effort to make sure local flood victims know what kind of assistance is available to them, Shorewood police chief Aaron Klima and several other village employees are standing ready to take calls.

Klima, also the Village's director of emergency management, issued a news release after President Obama declared 11 counties in Illinois as federal disaster areas, including Will County. The move came after Governor Quinn asked for assistance following the April floods in Illinois.

Klima said the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is the administrator of the assistance program. He directed local residents to contact FEMA via:

Klima said applicants will need the following information to initiate assistance requests:

  • Address of damaged property
  • Names of those residing at damaged residence
  • Complete, detailed description of damage
  • Insurance information
  • Social Security Number

Residents and local business personnel with questions are asked to call Shorewood Village Hall (815) 725-2150 or the Shorewood Police Department (815) 725-1460 or (815) 725-4636. Klima said callers will be directed to a Village employee who can assist in starting a claim.
