Make Your Own Holiday Gift at Pilcher Park Nature Center

The Littlest Elves event was expanded to two days this year to accommodate participants.

Do you have one person on your gift list for whom you have no idea what to buy? Debbie Greene, Superintendent of Pilcher Park Nature Center has a suggestion - go to the Littlest Elves Workshop.

"It’s a really great event; it’s for that person that you have absolutely no idea what to get them," Greene said. "It’s a great opportunity to make Christmas gifts for mom, dad, grandpa, whomever."

From 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., you can drop by the nature center, pick an unfinished ceramic item, paint it, and it will be fired in time for the holidays.

The event is free to attend, although there is a fee for the ceramic items. Fees vary from $2 to $20.

The nature center provides all the items needed for the ceramics and fires them on-site.

"We do a lot of ceramics here," Greene said.

The nature center also has a brand new kiln to fire the items.

The event isn't limited to those looking for a gift.

"It’s also a really great thing for babies because you can do their footprint on a plate or their handprint on a plate," Greene said.

You can just drop-in to the event. Pilcher Park Nature Center is at 2501 Highland Park Drive in Joliet.
