Kim Jackson has joined the Timbers of Shorewood retirement community as the new activities and events director. The Timbers is located at 100 North River Rd., Shorewood. She will choose, plan and coordinate a variety of events and activities for more than 180 residents of the retirement community.
“I am very excited that I found a bright shiny hook at this beautiful location on which to hang my heart,” Jackson said. “I love working with seniors, and I want to add a spark to the daily activities as well as charm to the future events that will be taking place.”
Formerly, she worked more than six years at Leeza’s Place in Joliet, helping caregivers become educated and empowered through support groups, activities and events.
She developed her commercial advertising skills in an apprenticeship at the corporate office of Jewel Foods. Jackson is a commercial artist and owns a local offset printing company. In addition, she is the published author of “Journaling … The footprints of your life.”
Jackson grew up in Brookfield where she was crowned Miss Brookfield in her late teens, an experience that taught her the importance of giving of one’s time to others. She has appeared in television commercials during her modeling career. Currently, her passion is reaching out to the elderly and those in need of support.
She was a scout leader for ten years and has been a Eucharistic Minister at her church for 25 years. Following Plainfield’s devastating tornado in 1990, Jackson was asked by the St. Mary Immaculate Financial Board to help oversee the building and pledge committees to rebuild the church, school and rectory.
In her spare time, she enjoys nature, and she loves to sing, taking part in local choirs. She is the mother of Matthew who is studying to become a physician and Ashley, a special education teacher. The family resides in Plainfield.
