Portion of Hammel Woods Dog Park Closed Due to Flood Damage

Temporary fencing put up; repairs are expected to be completed by June 1.

Flooding from the April 18-19 rains caused extensive damage to the Hammel Woods Dog Park, located on Black Road in Shorewood. Temporary repairs have enabled re-opening of a portion of the dog park.

Heavy rains caused the nearby DuPage River to overflow its banks and floodwaters swept through the dog park, severely damaging the eastern side of the park.  Much of the dog park fencing was knocked down, many of the fence posts were bent or broken, and a substantial amount of debris covered the river side of the park.

Over the coming weeks, debris will be cleared from the park and new fencing will be installed.

Temporary fencing has been installed to allow the re-opening of the park. Approximately 50 percent of the dog park’s total area of 7 acres will be open for use.

Repairs are expected to be completed by June 1.  Once this is done, the temporary fencing will be removed and the entire dog park will once again be open.
