Update: Tornado Watch in Effect Until 9 p.m.

The National Weather Service is calling for rainfall amounts of 1-2 inches as storms move through the area today.

The National Weather Service out of Chicago Weather has issued a tornado watch for Kendall, Kane, Will and Grundy counties through 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Also, showers, thunderstorms—some potentially severe—and high winds are possible for the rest of today as temperatures climb into the mid-80s and the air turns more and more humid and more and more unstable.

Here is a recap of the Joliet-area forecast, courtesy of the NWS:

TODAY: A slight chance of showers, then showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Some storms could be severe, with large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain. High near 86. Southwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

TONIGHT: Showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could be severe, with large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain. Low around 60. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph becoming north northwest 10 to 15 mph in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
