Santa and the Timbers' Elves Christmas Party this Saturday

The annual Santa and the Timbers' Elves Christmas Party features free photos with Santa, draft horses for hay rides, live reindeer, a petting zoo, Christmas carols, Chuckles the clown, caricature artists, magicians, cider, cookies and other refreshments

Santa Claus will listen to children’s wishes and pose for photos at the 9th Annual Timbers’ holiday event, “Santa and the Timbers’ Elves,” from 1 – 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at The Timbers of Shorewood Retirement Community, 1100 N. River Rd. This event is free and has become a favorite holiday festival for the entire community.

The Timbers has partnered with the Kiwanis Club of Shorewood to bring the 9th annual Santa and the Timbers’ Elves celebration to residents and the public. Everyone is asked to bring an unwrapped toy to donate to the Mark Staehely Pediatric Cancer Foundation, an organization dedicated to raising funds and awareness for research into new treatments and cures for pediatric cancers.

“Families can have a wonderful Saturday afternoon,” said Shelly Goggins, activities director at The Timbers. “There will be treats, surprises and animals galore, including real reindeer from Summerfield Farms in Belvidere.”

Phil Nielson is bringing his draft horses for hay rack rides and Friendly Farms of DeKalb will provide a petting zoo filled with lots of small animals - goats, chickens, sheep, etc. - for everyone to pet.

Cider, cookies and other refreshments will be served. Chuckles the clown will entertain children and children’s games will be available. Dan Laib and Angel Contreras will provide festival-goers with caricature sketches and Russ Schreck will draw portraits.

A craft show with many homemade items will also be on hand, provided by residents of Shorewood Glen.

The Timbers of Shorewood is a rental retirement community which provides independent and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay - a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
