There She Is, Miss Shorewood Crossroads (and Miss Shorewood Crossroads Junior)

It may not be the Miss America Pageant, but the annual Miss Shorewood Crossroads and Miss Shorewood Crossroads Junior contests have proven to be just as exciting for its participants.

The Miss Shorewood Crossroads Junior Contest is for girls 13 and 14, and the Miss Shorewood Crossroads Contest is for girls 15 to 17. Judging will take place at 6 p.m. Aug. 1 at Divas Salon & Spa. All contestants must live in the village of Shorewood.

Organizers of the contest stress that the event is not a beauty contest. It was noted that they are looking for well-rounded young women to represent Shorewood.

Judging is based on the contestants' writing skills, poise, personality and community involvement. Each contestant will be asked to submit a prepared essay and also have a short oral interview with three judges.

Applicants will be asked to respond, in 200 words or less, to the statement, “If selected Miss Shorewood Crossroads, I would contribute to my community by ... ”

Prizes will be awarded to the top three contestants in both age groups. The winner will receive a $500 shopping spree; first runner-up will receive a beauty package valued at $300; and second runner-up will receive a jewelry package valued at $200.

All participants will receive 10 percent off all services for a year at Divas Salon & Spa, the contest sponsor.

Applications are available and can be picked up at Divas Salon & Spa, Dairy Queen in the Apple Tree Plaza, Shorewood-Troy Public Library, Shorewood Area Chamber of Commerce office and on the festival website.

Applications should be returned to Divas by July 28.

The official announcement and crowning of Miss Shorewood Crossroads and Miss Shorewood Crossroads Junior will be held at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 6 on the festival grounds.

Winners will also ride in the Shorewood Crossroads Festival parade on Aug. 7.

The contest is held in conjunction with the annual Shorewood Crossroads Festival the weekend of Aug. 5. The Shorewood Area Chamber of Commerce is host for the festival and the presenting sponsor is the Bank of Shorewood.
