Winter Ballroom Dance at The Timbers

The Timbers of Shorewood has invited area seniors to its winter ballroom dance.

Area senior citizens are invited to a winter ballroom dance at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at retirement community, 1100 N. River Road, .

The Jay Mau Orchestra will provide the music of the Big Band era. This 10-piece band has been tempting couples onto the dance floor at 35-40 gigs a year, The Timbers being a favorite. Mau plans an interesting mix of music to dance to — foxtrots, waltzes and cha-chas.

While World War II tunes were heard over America’s radios, 5-year-old Jay Mau was the director of his kindergarten rhythm band. Mau would later find his way to real instruments, a seat in several bands, and his ultimate beat as leader of his own orchestra.
