Party Patter: Ahoy Matey ! How To Plan A Pirate Party

One of my favorite times of the year is approaching Halloween. The trees changing colors, taffy apples and hot apple cider. It always brings back memories of when I was a child. What a great time to plan a pirate party. Who says that kids get to have all the fun ! My customers the Eberharts throw this type of party every year , and it can be budget friendly to your pocket book. So lets walk the plank, but before we do that let me talk about some fun ideas for this type of party. Aye ..ye be invited !

Setting up for a pirate party can sometimes be a bit tricky. You don't want it to look like a birthday party ,go to far and it may turn into a Halloween party. There are plenty of pirate decorations you can find . My first choice would to look at decorations from from the Oriental trading company online. I use this site quite often for the different theme parties I do.

Invitations If you really want to be creative you could cut a lunch bag in half lengthwise and scallop edges with scissors . Another option would be to burn the edges of the bag. If you decide to use this method please do it in a safe place. Take a trip to your local hobby shop to to purchase stamps of a ship or perhaps a pirate .Then write in the rest of the invitation yourself. If you don't have the time, facebook or an evite is a simple way to send out party information.

Decorations A pirate flag is a must a this type of party. Once everyone has a had a bit of cheer. Bring out the treasure maps, a box with eye patches ,bandanas, and gold earrings to set the mood. As they follow the trail to the treasure chest make sure you fill it with gold coins, beads, bottles of rum , and maybe some gift cards if your budget allows. A showing the pirates of the carribean movie might be another fun idea.

Food Caribbean food would be a great idea for this type of party. Some examples would be . Jerk Chicken with a mango salsa. Tropical grilled prawns with coconut milk and cumin. We have a recipe below for a salad that we used on our most recent pirate party. Try it and tell us what you think.

Mango-jicama salad
1 Each, peeled, cut into matchsticks: jicama, mango
1 Red bell pepper, seeded, cut into matchsticks
1 Ripe red pear, cored, cut into matchsticks
1 Small bunch cilantro (about 1 cup), finely chopped
1 Bunch green onions, thinly sliced on the diagonal
Juice from 2 limes
Teaspoon each: honey, salt freshly ground pepper.
Toss and enjoy.

Land ho have to go, good luck planning your next pirate party
