Diva's Salon Attributes Success to Great Employees

The salon expanded six years ago and is still filled with regulars and new clients every day.

Sixteen years ago, two women took a chance on a dream. Angie Margliano and her aunt Judy Tomasino decided to open in Shorewood.

"She and I definately are a good pair," Margliano said. "She handles a lot of the business end; I handle a lot of the hair end."

Margliano was a stylist by trade when she opened the salon. She has since stopped doing hair to concentrate more on running the business. But, for Tomasino, opening a salon was a new experience. She has come to love it, though.

"It's rewarding to see a client come in...some of the girls, they look so beautiful," Tomasino said.

The salon began with six stylists. There are 36 stylists today.

Both Tomasino and Margliano agree that the reason a salon as large as Diva's can continue to be successful is because of the quality of its staff.

"We had a very good team, everybody coorperated; everybody worked together," Tomasino said. "If you have a good team of employees and everybody coorporates, it makes it a lot easier."

Not only do the employees at Diva's work together for the day-to-day operations, they have donated their time and talents to the salon in other ways.

Tomasino said the salon coordinator, Tanya Delrose is artistic. She creates signs to tell bridal parties which station they will be at next - make-up, hair, etc. She also handles the donations for the salon, creating baskets and such to donate to raffles for local organizations.

And the decorations in the salon were the brainchild of Margaret Manthey, a hairstylist who has a knack for interior design.

The salon now has massage and nail services and as of the first of the month added hot stone massage, spray tanning and a new straightening service.
