McBride's on 52 Hosts First St. Baldrick's Fundraiser

The new McBride's on 52 restaurant will host the all-day event on March 29.

So far, 15 people have signed up to get their heads shaved to raise money for the St. Baldrick's Foundation on Saturday, March 29, at McBride's on 52, 2727 W. Jefferson St. in Joliet.

"We've even got a couple of kids," owner Tracy Stary said. "They're pretty brave."

Stary, who opened the restaurant and pub with husband Brent in December, said she's wanted to host a St. Baldrick's event for years. The new location will allow the couple, who also own McBride's Pub & Grill at 7162 Caton Farm Road, to do just that.

Although McBride's has supported local causes for years, "Something like this is really cool," Stary said.

The St. Baldrick's Foundation raises money for children's cancer research.

The event kicks off at noon and will go all day, with entertainment including a magician and face painting for kids. A live DJ will entertain customers at night, Stary said.

So far, McBride's is about halfway to its $5,000 goal. Stary said she hopes to get more volunteers and "shavees" to sign up for the inaugural event.

Staff from Salon David Anthony, located next to the restaurant at 2621 W. Jefferson St., have donated their time all day long to shave heads, according to Stary.
