Joliet's Department Restaurant to Close

Downtown bar and restaurant will reportedly close up shop by the end of the week.

The Department, 205 N. Chicago St. in downtown Joliet, is closing.

On Friday, an employee who identified himself as a manager said the restaurant will close on March 15.

The staffer said the building owner has opted to lease the site to a new tenant.

"We couldn't compete with the offer," he said.

Founder Derek Brenczewski previously ran Joliet's Tuckaway Tavern, which closed in 2002, and was part owner of McBrody's until 2007.

Brenczewski and wife Hallie reportedly branched out beyond Joliet last year, taking over the Majestic Isle Casino on St. John's, Antigua, according to the Antigua Observer.
