Keep Flies from Crashing your BBQ

You've set up the perfect outdoor party. Guest will be arriving soon. Everything looks great. Except that buzzing of the flies who threaten to invade - landing on food and annoying attendees with their noise. Here are some tips Patch compiled from various Web sites to keep them at bay:

  • Bags and pennies: Place 4 to 6 pennies in a zipper sealed baggie, and half fill it with water. Seal it shut, and suspend it near the doorway to keep the flies from even coming in the house. • Hydrogen peroxide: Fill up a spray bottle with hydrogen peroxide and water and spray the area to be used. It is most affective to spray areas in which will have sticky drinks or food.
  • Use a tin and essential oils: Step-by-step directions can be found by clicking here. Many oils are effective, including lavender and citronella.
  • Use lemons and cloves.
  • Try a natural insect repellant that you can spray on yourself. The ingredients are ½ cup witch hazel, ½ cup apple cider or white vinegar, 50 drops of any of the following essential oils: catnip, cedar, citronella, clove, eucalyptus, lavender, mint, or rosemary.
