Labor of Love at The Timbers

Second-graders made Valentine's for residents of The Timbers of Shorewood and will visit them on the holiday.

More than 30 second-graders from will visit residents of at noon on Valentine's Day.

The children will bring homemade Valentines and candy to the 1100 N. River Road retirement community. They also will perform, singing songs about love and Jesus.

Teacher Marnie Van Wyk said the students want to give the residents a message of hope and love and what better way than giving from the heart on Valentine’s Day.

The visit happened last year, and it was a meaningful intergenerational event, and both the children and the residents enjoyed it very much. After all, who minds getting a Valentine, especially from a child?

The Timbers of Shorewood is a rental retirement community. The Timbers provides independent and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay — a weekend, a week, a month or longer.
