Let the Good Times Roll with Route 59 Weekend Extravaganza

The Return to Route 59 celebration officially started with a Thursday night ribbon cutting.

Months of planning culminated with Mayor Rick Chapman slicing through a red ribbon with a pair of oversized scissors.

Chapman kicked off the Return to Route 59 celebration on Thursday evening with a ribbon-cutting outside the Citi Bank on that famed thoroughfare.

If there was one draw back to the festivities, it was the rain and the cold.

"We had somebody in charge of everything but the weather," quipped village Trustee Dan Gron.

But the forecast going forward is for sunnier skies, which bodes well for the four-day celebration.

The event, which was organized to mark the end of the troublesome road construction on Route 59 and the return of prosperity to the business corridor, will feature sales, specials, food and fun throughout the weekend.
