Morris Hospital Now a Level II Perinatal Care Center

New designation means better care for moms and their babies.

When you cut to the chase, the new designation at Morris Hospital & Healthcare Centers means better care for new moms and their babies, according to Theresa Reece, manager of the Family Birthing Suites.

Reece delivered her remarks in a news release to announce Morris Hospital has been re-designated as a Level II perinatal care provider by the Illinois Department of Public Health.

The designation means Morris Hospital has the necessary qualifications to care for women who have the potential or likelihood for complicated or high-risk deliveries, as well as newborns who may require specialized services, according to a news release issued by hospital public relations manager Janet Long.

This includes premature infants born as early as 32 weeks gestation, in addition to full-term newborns with breathing difficulties, jaundice or other medical conditions that require an intermediate level of care, Long said.

“Essentially, this designation allows us to take care of moms and babies who need a higher level of care,” stated Reece. “Even when a baby requires a higher level of care and has to be transferred to a Level III perinatal facility, the baby is able to return to us sooner because of our Level II designation.”
