Shorewood-Troy Library Board to Vote on Referendum

The Shorewood-Troy Library has spend the past few months getting input from the public on what they would like to see in a new building. They have outgrown their current space and have been working to purchase about 5 acres near Shorewood Village Hall. But, the library only has enough cash in reserve to buy the land. To build on it, they have to turn to voters.

On Thursday night, the Shorewood-Troy Library Board of Trustees will vote on whether or not they want to ask voters for a referendum to pay to build a new building on the land.

Library director Jenni Mills told Patch back in April that the library knew that at some point they were going to have to ask voters for help.

In December, the library was still hosting meetings so residents could weigh in. At the time, the library intended to ask the taxpayers for an increase when they go to the polls in April.

Mills said in all of the feedback about design and desires of the new library, residents did not complain about the possible referendum.

"We didn’t really hear any anger or upset about the tax law," she said.

The board meets at 7 p.m., at the library, 650 Deerwood Dr. in Shorewood.
