Wine, Women and Charity

The public is invited to a wine tasting to get you on board with a good cause.

Women who like to meet interesting people, help worthy causes and sample a little wine, listen up.

Wine Styles next to Shorewood's Target will be the location of the Joliet Junior Women Club recruitment party on Thursday.

From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the public can enjoy a $5 wine tasting, hors d'oeuvres, goodie bags and raffles. And of course, club members will be around to talk about the benefits of membership.

"A lot of time, women want to give back to the community but they don't know how," said Membership Director Chrissy Monaco. "We are just a really great group of people and we volunteer a lot."

In 2010, the Joliet Junior Women Club contributed to Easter Seals, Will County Children's Advocacy Center, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Will-Grundy Medical Clinic, Will County Center for Community Concerns, Building a Global Community, United Cerebral Palsy, Lambs Fold, Will-Grundy Center for Independent Living, Catholic Charities, Forest Park Community Center and Vista Learning, according to www.JJWC.com.

The group also provides a scholarship.

But this group is not for the lazy folks. Being a member means attending at least three meetings, paying $50 annual dues, fulfilling 12 hours of service on specified projects, and selling at least two tickets to the annual Comedy Nite.

"JJWC is the perfect mix of social and working for a cause," Monaco said.  "I have met a lot of new friends in the area and the feeling you get when you see all of the charities that we are able to give money to at the end of the year is wonderful!"
