Dottie Plut, owner of said one of the trends in the wedding industry right now can be a challenge for shops. Brides are giving their bridesmaids a color and telling them to choose their own dresses based only on color.
But, Plut said to look consistent, the fabrics should also be complimentary.
"It can be challenging," she said. "You have to find the same fabric, same color."
For brides, one of the trends is to change dresses between the ceremony and the reception. In addition, flowers on dresses is popular right now. Plut said the mermaid style of dresses is not as popular as it used to be and fit and flare dresses have taken over. Fit and flare dresses are fitted to the hips and then flare out. They are less fitted over the legs, so brides can dance more easily.
Plut doesn't always go for what is trendy. She has her favorites when it comes to gowns.
"I'm always a lace lover, whether it's a trend or not," she said. "I love lace."
Plut reminds brides that shopping for gowns, for themselves, their bridesmaids or for the mother of the bride takes preplanning.
"Bridal gowns can take six to eight months to get in, so start shopping a year out," she said.
Bridesmaids gowns and mother-of-the-bride or mother-of-the-groom gowns can take four months to arrive.
