Blue Ribbon for Local Recycled Glass Artist

Minooka grad Nicole Roberson takes home top prize in downtown Oswego competition.

A local woman who turns recycled glass into art is now a blue ribbon winner.

“What a great day! I’m proud to announce that my tree mosaic won first place in the ‘Windows into our Community’ competition in downtown Oswego (Sunday, Aug. 18),” said Nicole Roberson in an announcement on her Facebook page: Nicole Marie Artistry.

Roberson, a Minooka Community High School grad and resident of Elwood, recently was featured on Patch: Local Artist Turns Recycled Glass into Treasure.

“She gets her vision and just goes with it,” said Roberson’s mother, LeAnn Halweg, who used to own a boutique—Timeless Memories—in Minooka with Nicole’s aunt. “That’s kind of how artists do their work. It’s almost like with me—with pottery—I always say that the piece that I make tells me what it wants to be.”
