Shorewood Resident Scores 36 on ACT

Lily Benig, a junior at Minooka Community High School, put herself in elite company when she aced a college entrance exam.

Her last name starts with the letter “B” but everything about Lily Benig’s work says she is straight-A material.

Benig, a Minooka Community High School junior and resident of Shorewood, put herself in elite company when she scored a 36 on the ACT during an early-exam period near the end of her sophomore year.

Fewer than one-tenth of one percent of all annual ACT test takers accomplish the feat, according to a post to announce Benig’s achievement on the Minooka website.

Benig, the daughter of Vincent and Sandra Benig of Shorewood, took a practice ACT during her sophomore year and earned a score of 35, according to the MCHS site.

“I was really excited that I scored a 35 and, to me, the difference between a 35 and a 36 is just a little bit of luck,” Benig stated in the web post. “I figured since I was finishing up my pre-calculus class, all the material was fresh in my mind and I decided to take the ACT early.”

Benig is the third MCHS student in the last 18 months to score a 36 on the ACT, following in the footsteps of 2013 alum Charles Tierney and current MCHS senior John Kauffmann, according to the MCHS website.

Benig is involved in a number of activities at Minooka, the list running the gamut from tennis and soccer to scholastic bowl and math team. She also is active outside of school with her youth group at Shorewood Church of God, according to MCHS’s web post.
