iPad Fun Club Open House at the Timbers

An open house featuring MiFun, an iPad Fun Club, will be held for residents and the public from 2 – 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9, at The Timbers of Shorewood, 1100 N. River Rd., Shorewood.

Retired Naperville businesswoman Wanda Schlafly is the owner of MiFun, a program she designed to help seniors learn how to use and enjoy iPads. As part of her iPad Fun Club, Schlafly introduces members to a richer variety of activities, helping them keep their minds and spirits in the best possible shape.

Schlafly teaches seniors how to use the device over several sessions and at their own pace. She uploads photos and music, and chooses, installs and customizes several Apps based on each member’s interests.

“An iPad is a great match for seniors,” Schlafly said. “A lot of them just don’t know it yet.”

Schlafly and her team will also provide those in need with rented iPads (at cost).

Schlafly meets with all members of the club weekly for a fun class. She also forms smaller weekly groups that focus on learning-based projects of importance to group members.

The MiFun experience is customized for each senior, taking into account the family members and caregivers as well. Because each person has different likes and abilities, Schlafly offers services tailored to individual needs or desires.

“In addition to providing seniors with fun stimulation, my goal is to help them document their life stories and create memoirs,” Schlafly said. “I get feedback at the end of every visit and use that information to plan the next visit.”

Schlafly takes care of the technology so the seniors can just enjoy it. If a member chooses to opt out of the MiFun program at any time, all accumulated content will be turned over to him or her.

The Timbers of Shorewood is a rental retirement community which provides independent and assisted living apartments and a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay - a weekend, a week, a month or longer.

The open house is free and open to the public. For more information call Shelly Goggins at 815-609-0669.
