Community Corner

Halloween Spook House at the Timbers

All children in the community are invited to come in costume to the Timbers’ 7th annual Halloween Spook House from 5–9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, and from 5–9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. The scary spook house will be located in the lower level at The Timbers of Shorewood, 1100 N. River Road, Shorewood.

With the assistance of the Kiwanis Club of Shorewood, the staff at The Timbers will transform its ballroom into a frightening maze filled with ghastly creatures including skeletons, mummies, bleeding zombies and reapers.

“Our Spook House is so much fun, and each year it gets more creepy and spine-chilling – on purpose, of course,” said Shelly Goggins, activities director at The Timbers.

A less scary alternative is the first floor Elms Community Room which will be converted into a Halloween Game Room for children, toddler to age 10. Fun with games and crafts will take place, and refreshments will be served. Game Room hours are 5-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25 and 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26.

Last year had a great turnout with a total of $2,044 raised from admission fees. Proceeds benefit the Kiwanis Club and Leeza’s Place.

“It was wonderful to see so many attendees at last year’s Spook House,” said Faith Ann Varga, executive director of The Timbers and president of the Kiwanis Club of Shorewood. “Not only did everyone have a great time, but the funds we raised went to two inspiring community organizations. We are certainly looking forward to this year!”

The Timbers of Shorewood is a rental retirement community which provides independent and assisted living apartments as well as a full schedule of activities and services. Furnished apartments are also available for a short-term stay - a weekend, a week, a month or longer.

Admission to the Spook House is $5; $3 to the Halloween Game Room. Funds raised will be donated to the Kiwanis Club and the Alzheimer’s Association. For more information call Shelly Goggins at 815-609-0669 or visit The Timbers of Shorewood website.
