Czuczuk Family Won't Let it Rain on Cancer Victim's Party

Alex Czuczuk's aunt, her three children and the gang from St. Catherine's sold lemonade in a cancer fundraiser that carried on despite a little rain Friday in Oak Lawn.

On the day his aunt and three of his cousins set up a lemonade stand on his behalf, it rained.

Alex Czuczuk’s extended family was not deterred.

Julie Ternes and her three children have drawn inspiration from Czuczuk. He is a 16-year-old Shorewood resident and Minooka Community High School student battling to beat osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer.

So, when Caryn Talty and five other families involved in a summer bookclub came up with the Lemon-Aid idea, Ternes helped rally the gang from St. Catherine’s. They all weathered the storm and sold lemonade in Oak Lawn on Friday, June 21, to raise money for the Czuczuk family.

And, judging by these photos snapped by Robi Lukasik, the act was not so much an exercise in staying dry but, rather, an effort of joy.

Ternes also has set up a fundraising page to help the Czuczuk’s pay for Alex’s cancer treatments.
