Holiday Card Drive for the Military Being Held at Joliet Mall

Participants will make their own cards, which the American Red Cross will distribute to military installations, veterans hospitals and other locations.

A Holiday Mail for Heroes card drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 30 at the entrance to Carson's department store at the Louis Joliet Mall in Joliet.

The event, conducted by the American Red Cross, allows participants to make their own cards at tables set up for that purpose and with provided materials. Or people can drop off their own homemade cards.

All cards will be distributed to military installations, veterans hospitals and other locations by the Red Cross.

The event is co-sponsored by Sen. Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant (D-Shorewood), Sen. Pat McGuire (D-Joliet), Rep. Natalie Manley (D-Joliet), Rep. Tom Cross (R-Oswego), Rep. Larry Walsh (D-Elwood) and Rep. Emily McAsey (D-Lockport).

“The holidays can be especially hard for our active military personnel, who are stationed far from home and away from their families,” Bertino-Tarrant said in a news release on the event. “I’m glad we are able to do something that will bring them some holiday cheer and remind them that we appreciate their service.”
