Joliet Township High School Increases Student FAFSA Application Percentage

The number of Joliet Township High School students who have filled out the FAFSA prior to March 1 has increased this school year.
The FAFSA, or the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is an application students fill out yearly to determine their eligibility for student financial aid in college.

The number of Joliet Central High School students who filled out the application prior to March 1 jumped from 140 in 2012-2013 to 155 in 2013-2014, for a total increase of 10.81 percent. The number of Joliet West High School students who filled out the application prior to March 1 increased from 196 in 2012-2013 to 274 in 2013-2014, a 39.8 percent increase. The increase state wide was only 6.4 percent.
“JTHS is extremely appreciative of our dedicated counselors and senior advisory teachers for their work in creating a ‘college-going culture,’” said Joliet Township High School Superintendent, Cheryl McCarthy. “Our goal is for every student to graduate with the college and career readiness skills that are essential for success beyond high school. Increasing the number of students completing FAFSA applications indicates that we are one step closer to achieving this goal.”
