School-To-Apprenticeship (STA) is a program for juniors who are interested in a career within the construction trades. The program includes rigorous academic and technical preparation during high school.  Students that are selected receive paid, supervised work experience during the summer of their junior and senior years.

In order to apply for the program, students need to have maintained 95 percent attendance rate, earned an overall grade point average of "B" or better in their technology/construction classes, and a “C” or better in their academic classes, demonstrate good citizenship, go through an interview with apprentice coordinators and complete OSHA and CPR training.

Participating in the apprenticeship program does not guarantee employment, but allows students to be prepared for available job openings after graduation.

The School-To-Apprenticeship coordinator for Joliet West High School is Dave Popek and the Joliet Central High School coordinator is Tim Grygiel.

“It is an honor to qualify for the School-To-Apprenticeship program,” said JTHS Director of Career and Technical Education Dede Woodard.  “In addition, four of our students placed in the top five based upon acceptance criteria.  We are incredibly proud of our students and teachers.”
