Joliet Township High School was recently selected by the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Office of Community College Research and Leadership (OCCRL) to present a webinar that highlighted the success of the JTHS Teacher Advisory Program.
JTHS Project Director Carol Collins presented the webinar along with Jo Wooten, Pupil Personnel Services Coordinator, and Jennifer Rea, Assistant Principal at Joliet Central. Since 2004, Joliet Central and Joliet West high schools have utilized teacher advisory in order to improve over 10,000 students’ success in college and careers.
During the webinar, Collins and her colleagues shared the JTHS teacher advisory model, strategies to engage industry partners, organizational leadership practices that support college/career success, resources for getting started as well as strategies to differentiate across campuses and grade levels.
“Joliet Township High School was deeply honored to take part in this important educational conversation,” Collins said. “Attendees learned about strategies for building a successful teacher advisory program as a vehicle for college/career success for all students.”
Based on the success of the JTHS Teacher Advisory Program, Collins was asked to present at an OCCRL workshop this spring titled “Promoting Student College/Career Success with the Illinois Career Cluster Model.”
“Joliet is definitely out in front on the Teacher Advisory Program,” said Donald Hackman, Associate Professor of Education Policy, Organization and Leadership at the University of Illinois.
