"Broadway, Motion Picture and Pop Music Spectacular" Returns for Second Year

Back by popular demand! On Sunday, May 4, the JTHS Alumni Association will again present an extraordinary afternoon of music entitled “The Broadway, Motion Picture and Pop Music Spectacular” at 3 p.m. in the Joliet West High School igh School  auditorium, Glenwood and Larkin Avenues.

 

“The show features a 70-member chorale, a 10-piece orchestra and the return of the   outstanding soloists from 2013, Agne G and Larry Crawford,” said JTHS Alumni Coordinator Lynne Lichtenauer.  “The concert selections will include a medley from the longest running Broadway musicals such as Chorus Line, Beauty & the Beast, Miss Saigon, Fiddler on the Roof, and Les Miserables. Also, music from “Rent” and “Gypsy,” as well as a tribute to the Beatles saluting their 50th anniversary appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964.”

Twelve-year-old Agne, a vocal protégé, won first place in her age category at the 2013 American Protégé International Vocal Competition and performed at Carnegie Hall, New York City, on December 22, 2013. Crawford sings and plays keyboard in Positive Xchange, an inspirational and empowerment band with the mission to promote faith through original music. He is also the truant specialist for Joliet Grade School District 86. Both Agne and Crawford are Rialto Idol winners.

The show is produced and directed by Mr. Nicholas Thomas, an Associate Professor of Music at Moraine Valley Community College where he is Chairman of the Fine Arts and Humanities Department. He directs the Moraine Chorale and Chamber Singers and has taken his chorus’ to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York and to the Vatican in Rome singing before Pope Paul John II. He has led concert tours throughout Austria, Germany, Italy and Switzerland. Thomas was the Music Director/Organist at the Cathedral of St. Raymond for over 25 years. He is also the former music director for the Diocese of Joliet having retired from both positions.

 

“Each spring a Broadway-themed show of this type is staged by Thomas at the college. Annually, it is a sell out with a waiting list for tickets,” said Lichtenauer.  “This exceptional show will be presented at Moraine Valley on Saturday. The JTHS Alumni Association is very happy to be bringing it to Joliet-area audiences on Sunday, May 4. “
